About Us

We bought the place we call Old Rag Trailhead to spend time in the Shenandoah region with our kids and dogs, a getaway from the city. We have enjoyed many weekends and holidays there, in every season, with friends and relatives: the cows in the neighboring fields, dinners on the deck, fire pits under the stars. We also enjoyed the process of fixing up and decorating the place, inside and out. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that, when it became available, we also bought what we call Old Rag Foothills, the house next door!

The collection has since grown to include Old Rag Overlook: an estate of two homes on 32 acres in Etlan, looking right at Old Rag, with a main house, a cottage, and a game room in the converted smokehouse, for groups of up to 18.

We still come ourselves on a regular basis to spend a weekend or holiday. We have found it relaxing and fun, and we are happy that so many of our guests have too. We are especially pleased that many families with children have had a good time there, and that several groups have come back a second time. This corner of the world has an undeniable appeal: the blue/green of the countryside, the Shenandoah National Park skyline, the breweries, wineries, and farmers markets. “The mountains are calling” and you must come!
